周顺带着自己一家老小来国际医院体检，恰好碰到公司董事林琅天，周顺和林琅天套近乎，以期年后能顺利升职。。经过长达数日的盯梢，从警已18年的城北署警部补村上翔一（江口洋介饰）在归家的公车上昏昏睡去，结果只有短短瞬间佩枪便被一名鬼鬼祟祟的男人偷走。经事后回忆，村上想起那名手上有烧伤的男子正是自己初中时代的同学柳下银次（柄本佑饰）。时间紧迫，警署必须在五天内找回手枪。经过几番查找，村上终于抓住银次，却丝毫问不出枪的下落。在银次的引领下，他重逢了从事房地产的同学重山浩介（中村獅童饰）。重山允诺帮其找回配枪，条件是村上帮他找到与二人多有渊源的游佐及其妹妹（广末凉子饰）。村上关于童年的回忆被勾起，而重山又在策划些什么呢？ 本片根据黑泽明的原作改编。。With an involved, detailed mystery and an elegant adversary played by Gale Sondergaard, this is one of the most entertaining features in the Sherlock Holmes series of movies starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.
