故事发生在上世纪30年代。华泰绸庄主人徐辰风(黄文豪饰)是个正直的商人，然而因为父母早逝，继承庞大的家业，由于过于年轻气盛，不留余地，曾因发现帐册出错，就将用了几十年的李掌柜断然开除。辰风之妻周慧君(马雅舒饰)染上重病，辰风在慧君坚持下，将乡下女孩沈桂花(杜葳饰)娶进门替慧君冲喜。李掌柜后来受气染病致死，一家陷入困境，女儿李纯儿落入风尘……。Paul Gregory is sprung from jail in London by his accomplice after getting a stretch as expected for robbing a woman who falls for his charms. Only he knows how to get to the money, but his partner is getting greedy and as things turn sour Gregory finds that home in Canada is a long way away。
