公元700年盛唐时期，中国同阿拉伯及中东在经济、文化上有许多交流，西域的丝绸之路是相互来往的要道，为捍卫其完整，唐朝军队不断与突厥对垒。 戍边校尉李（姜文）因不愿屠杀突厥的老人、妇女和孩子俘虏触犯军令成为通缉犯，为缉捕他，皇帝封屡请回国的日本遣唐使来栖（中井贵一）为捕快，并许诺只要能将校尉李捉拿归案，便可满足其回国心愿。其时战事正值严峻，来到西域的来栖又受托护送将军之女文珠（赵薇）回长安，中途他遇见校尉李，一场大战后，两人不分轩轾，相约长安城下再决生死。不久，他们碰上护送经书的朝廷商队及觊觎驼队的响马子安（王学圻），生死大战蓄势待发。。Having grown up in the mountains Chiayi, installation artist WANG Wen-chih weaves his memories of mountains and forests into his work.
