文佳宜是某公司的秘书，她和药厂研究员叶坚订了婚约。佳宜似乎应该满足，然而她内心却常常涌现出一阵阵的落寞。寄住她家的表哥高宁，宣布要搬出，妹妹佳颖百般挽留，当夜高宁倾吐了心底的爱慕，高宁的激情扰乱了平静的佳宜。她不停的思索，高宁的身影也不时困惑她的心思。叶坚提出结婚及旅行计划，被佳宜婉拒，叶坚不能忍受佳宜心里有高宁，在一个风雨夜约了高宁和佳宜，他预先准备了毒酒，这场爱的纠纷总算有了结局。。Volker Schlöndorff transposes Bertolt Brecht’s late-expressionist work to latter-day 1969.
