The warmhearted story of Polish immigrant and mathematician Stan Ulam, who moved to the U.S. in the 1930s. Stan deals with the difficul t losses of family and friends all while helping to create the hydrogen bomb and the first computer. 波兰科学家乌兰姆于上世纪30年代移居到美国，他在帮助科研团队制作氢弹的过程中，他还要处理和面对一些个人得失。。本片根据同名京剧改编，源出「水浒传」，胡金铨编剧。值得一提的是，擅演悲剧的乐蒂首次以俏皮方式演出丫头一角。故事始于才子卞济（乔庄）落拓花田，卖画维生，与官家小姐（丁宁）一见锺情，却因恶霸（朱牧）介入而波折重重，闹出连篇笑话……。
