Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。男童节当天，刚刚结束外出旅行的阿寅（渥美清饰）本想为满男买些鲤鱼旗庆祝，但却因为一些小事情而搞得不欢而散。心情郁闷的他决定再次踏上旅程。在路上，他偶然发现一个情绪低落的女子在河边徘徊，而当他回到旅馆时，竟然又遇到了这个女子。深感同情，阿寅邀请她品尝当地的特色菜，但却让他陷入了经济困境。 在返回的路上，阿寅与一个出身贵族的老人相遇，并建立了一种不解之缘。这位老人失去了自己的小儿子，而儿媳橘子则离家在外。当初，因为橘子的出身是平民，她和老人之间因门第观念而发生了矛盾。现在，老人渴望找到她，解除内心的不安。机缘巧合之下，橘子竟然就是阿寅在旅馆中遇到的女子。两人心存忐忑，但渴望相见，终于化解了彼此之间的误会。老人甚至考虑让阿寅成为橘子的人生伴侣，这一切都让阿寅陷入了犹豫和纠结之中。他不知道自己该如何选择，但心中却充满了对未来的期待和对爱情的感动。。
